Patterned Imprinted Concrete
Patterned imprinted concrete is a new skill technique. This method uses colours and patterns to decorate concrete driveways, patios, and paths. This creates the authentic look of stone, slate, or timber. This eliminates the associated high costs of natural products.
Minimal Maintenance
Patterned concrete offers a unique product with minimal maintenance. It performs better than other products, such as flagstones and tarmac, block paving and tarmac. Many problems can be solved by a dolomite under-base and four inches fiber reinforced concrete. Alternative products can solve these problems, including sinking, weeds, and moss. The problems that can be encountered with wooden decked patios include block paving and wood rot.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?
Simply put, pattern concrete (also known by stamped concrete) involves pouring concrete over a subbase, then applying a colour followed by a hardener. This is different from traditional concreting that used blocks to create your finish.
The pattern is applied after the concrete has drained. There are many prints you can choose from. The most common include brickwork, textured stones, and ashlar. Patterned concrete is an attractive choice for domestic properties, particularly when it comes to lining driveways.
Good quality print
The quality and durability of the concrete printed is crucial. Laying fresh concrete takes extreme care and dedication. Otherwise, the concrete will become inconsistent and cause a poor floor.
A contractor will typically use six to eight rigid matsa and one flexible mat per set. It is necessary to use six mats to span the narrowest section. However, flexible mats are used to access and to print areas that rigid mats won’t.
Although most printing mats measure 600x600mm in size, it is possible to order matts up to 600x600mm.
Colour Consistency
When installing imprinted concrete, it is important to keep in mind the color consistency to ensure your flooring achieves what you want. The main components in patterned concrete include antique release agents and colour surface toughener.
It will cause a poor finish if the colour surface binder isn’t applied correctly or isn’t used enough. This is particularly noticeable in larger commercial jobs such as retail shop flooring.
Large commercial jobs may require several concrete deliveries. This can result in slight colour variation in each concrete mixture. The surface hardener matches the colours when they are applied. This is ideal when larger jobs take longer than a few working days.
Ensuring Long-Term Durability
To ensure that the concrete floor is durable, the sub-stone foundation must be mixed with the ground below it. This could be soil or stone.
A concrete mix is also important in ensuring structural integrity will remain strong for many years.
This is especially important when you live in areas with high traffic, such as driveways and multi-storey car parkings.
Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking
For driveways made of patterned concrete, you must have at most 300kgs of cement per cubic yard.
You will need to use 350-380kgs for cold weather.
An air entertaining additive can also be added to enhance the floor’s durability and resistance from cracking caused by heavy traffic and weather.
Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results
It will enhance the appearance of patterned concrete by applying a solvent-based acrylic paint once it has dried. Water-based acrylics pose a greater problem for patterned concrete so they should be avoided.
The sealant can be used every four-years to preserve the look of your patterned concrete.
It isn’t mandatory but it will help keep your driveway, or wherever we have patterned concrete installed, looking amazing for many years.
